Tom William Nigh, age 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away at his home on February 24, 2019.  He was born August 27, 1946 in Eureka, Kansas to Millard and Elizabeth (Woodall) Nigh.

Tom graduated from Howard High School in Howard, Kansas in 1964.  In 1966, he joined the United States Navy and spent four years serving our country aboard the U.S.S. Ethan Allen.  On Feburary 2, 1969, he married Nellie Gray in Howard, Kansas.  They lived several places through the years moving to wherever Tom was employed.  Before and after the military, he worked for Cessna in Wichita, Kansas.  In 1971, he went to work as a Police Officer in Eureka, Kansas.  In 1975, Tom and Nellie moved to Winfield, Kansas where Tom went to work as a Police Officer where he worked until 2002, retiring as the Assistant Police Chief.  During his career, he went back to college and graduated from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Tom loved his life as a Police Officer, but outside of work his love was for his grandkids and for restoring cars.  Over the years, he restored several cars, and his favorite project was restoring a 1963 Ford Galaxie.  He enjoyed working with his grandson, Andrew, teaching him about cars.  They once restored a pickup together that Andrew still owns today.

Tom is survived by his wife, Nellie of the home; his daughters, Angela and Troy Hurt of Howard, Kansas and Jennifer and Kody Conrad of Winfield, Kansas; grandchildren, Andrew Hurt, Alexandrea Hurt, Emily Conrad, and one on the way, Tyler William Conrad; his sister, Donna Sutter of Wichita, Kansas; his nieces, Elizabeth and Paul Jordan of Moline, Kansas and Irene and Raymond Stapleford of Severy, Kansas; and very close friends who were considered family, Justin, Heidi, and Emery Lauppe, Wes and Debbie Keely, and Beth, Stephan, Andrea, and Devon Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, 904 Wheat Road, Winfield, Kansas with visitation to be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service.  Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Central Baptist Church which may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
