Norma Jean Ervin, age 88, of Severy, Kansas, passed away November 13, 2018 at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born in Stigler, Oklahoma on January 28, 1930 to Robert and Metta (Roberts) McGlaughlin.

After high school, Jean met and married Willie Ervin in 1947.  They lived in Skiatook, Oklahoma until they moved to Conway Springs, Kansas in 1957.  In 1960, they moved to Coyville, Kansas, and in 1963 they moved to the farm in rural Elk County.  In 1980, Jean and Willie divorced, and she moved to Severy Kansas.  To this marriage, there were six children born.

Jean owned and operated the Severy Cafe from 1966 to 1991 where she got her reputation for the homemade pies she would make.  In 1992, she went to work at the Paddock Restaurant in Eureka, Kansas and worked there until 2005. 

Jean was a member of the Severy United Methodist Church, Severy UMW, and the Severy Coffee Club.  She absolutely loved being a Grandma and would attend her grandchildren's school activities, no matter what it was.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Peggy and husband, Earnie Chaffain of Hartford, Kansas; her sons, Rockie and wife, Phyllis Ervin of Severy, Kansas, Randy and wife, Nadene Ervin of Chanute, Kansas, Rusty Ervin of Melvern, Kansas, and Ron and wife, Debbie Ervin of Eureka, Kaunas; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sandra Pointer, Betty Hanson, Darlene Whitfield, and Lena Holland.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sue Ann Grundy; her great-granddaughter, Regan Grundy; her brothers, Bob McGlaughlin and Smokie McGlaughlin; and her sisters, Mary Joe Eldridge, Alta Rudluff, and Ruth Morris.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Severy, Kansas.  Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  The family will receive friends at visitation on Friday, November 16, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Mirza Shriners or the Ronald McDonald House and may be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Services are entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.
