Esther Lucile Foster, age 95, passed away on October 21, 2018 at Medicalodges of Independence, Kansas.  She was born the same day as her brother, Chester Hobart, in Independence, Kansas on January 24, 1923 to Thomas E. and Stella May (Roach) Hobart.

Esther attended school and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in Cedar Vale, Kansas with the Class of 1941.  After graduation, she attended Pittsburg State University where she became a teacher due to the severe shortage of educators during World War II.  Esther taught for five years before working for Boeing as an accounts payable clerk.

After the war, Esther was united in marriage to William Jefferson "Bill" Foster on November 7, 1947.  Bill worked for Southwestern Bell, and the couple was un-located for 2 1/2 years making 26 moves during that time from east to west.  Their mobile home was a great asset during those moves.  In 1950, they bought a home and small acreage in Arkansas City, Kansas.  It was there that they were blessed with the birth of a daughter and a son.  In 1960, they moved to Independence, Kansas where they purchased 80 acres and built a home.

Esther was a homemaker staying at the farm caring for her children, working with the 4-H, attending the children's school activities, participating in church activities, helping Bill with the farm and cattle, and everything else that came along that makes a homemaker so much more.  Esther and Bill loved country and western music.  They made several trips to Branson each year to enjoy concerts.  They also enjoyed visiting and traveling to scenic areas across the United States.

Esther's memories will live on with her children, Marla Foster Ware of Moline, Kansas and David "Thaine" Foster and wife, Cheryl; her granddaughter, Amanda Kaufman and husband, Anthony; and great-grandson, Eli Kaufman and soon to be great-grandson, Samuel Kaufman.  She now rests with her parents; her husband of 56 years, Bill; and her brother, Chester Hobart.

Private family services will be held, and Esther will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bill, in Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.  The family suggests memorials be made payable to the American Heart Association, and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Avenue, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337 which is in charge of arrangements.  Messages for the family may be left at www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com.
