Gary Charles Hunt, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Willian Newton Hospital in Winfield.  Born April 25, 1941 in El Dorado, Kansas, he was the son of Chester Lawrence "Chet' and Alta Earlene (Blaine) Hunt.

Gary was raised in and received his early education in El Dorado and Sedan, Kansas and attended high school in Geuda Springs, Kansas, graduating from Geuda Springs High School in 1959.  As a young man,  Gary worked for various farmers during the summers, helped the janitor at the high school, and drove a school bus.  He later worked for Geuda Springs Feed Mill and the Texaco Service Station in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.  In the early 1960s, he began working for John Morrell Meat Packing Plant in Arkansas City, Kansas where he remained for over twenty years. 

Gary was united in marriage to Sheryl Ann "Termite" Renner on February 26, 1990 in Winfield,  Kansas.  The couple made their home in Winfield, and Gary worked for Haslouer Pulled Hereford Ranch in Cedar Vale, Kansas.  He then worked for Schuster's Lawn and Garden before becoming an Assistant Manager at Home Lumber in Winfield.  He retired from Home Lumber in 2005.

Gary was  a member of AFL-CIO Meat Packers Union, the NRA, Bass Masters North American Fishing Club, and Good Sam Camping Club.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the yard, and just being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Sheryl (Renner) Hunt of Winfield, Kansas; his son, Michael Allen(Jackie) Hunt of Arkansas City, Kansas; his brother, Randy Craig (Mary Lou) Hunt of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; his sister, Janie (Roger) Johnson of Bixby, Oklahoma; his three grandchildren, Candace (Chris) Hendricks of Durant, Oklahoma, Chet (Amy) Hunt of Chanute, Kansas, and Kasha (Levi) Savage of Arkansas City, Kansas; and his four great-grandchildren, Jaren Hendricks, Bailey Hendricks, Hunter Hendricks, and Greyson Hunt with one on the way.

Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, Mary 19, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the Moline Cemetery in Moline, Kasnas.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Gary's name for the William Newton Healthcare Foundation, and contributions may be made through the funeral home.  Miles Funeral Home, 2009 E. 4th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156 has been entrusted with arrangements.
