Marian Betty Russell, age 85, formerly of Howard, Kansas, passed away February 22, 2018 at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Halstead, Kansas.  Betty was born on June 25, 1932 in Jamestown, North Dakota, the daughter of E. Bell and Marian Mangan and later adopted by Ralph Criger.

Betty received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kansas State University.  She was a member of the Rebekah Club, PEO, and was active in various community organizations.  She enjoyed sewing, woodworking, and played the organ and piano for several churches in the Howard area.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Preston Jones of Aline, Oklahoma, Dustin Russell of North Carolina, and Monica Fouch of Valley Center, Kansas; one brother, Sam Bell of Washington; two sisters, Wanda Jean (Criger) Eddy of Oregon and Stella Dige of Washington; and nine great-grandchildren.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tom Russell; and her grandson, Reid Russell.

Direct burial has been requested.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been suggested to either the American Heart Association or the First Assembly of God Church in Howard, Kansas and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
