Robert Leroy "Bob" Criger, age 80, of Altoona, Kansas, passed away on January 20, 2018 at Diversicare of Chanute, Kansas.  He was born in Rhame, North Dakota on August 9, 1937 to George and Helen (Hoag) Criger.

Bob attended school in Marmouth, North Dakota until eighth grade when the family made their home in Howard Kansas.  Bob graduated from Howard High School in 1955.  After graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for ten years.  He went on to serve another ten years with the Army Reserves.

On September 6, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Maria Vittoria Giovanna Anita Lanni in Naples, Italy.  To this union the couple was blessed with a son and a daughter.  The family called Wichita, Kansas home where Bob was the Chief Security for Beech Aircraft where he devoted 32 years of service.  At the age of 55, he retired to an eight-acre farm in Altoona, Kansas.  He gave his little slice of heaven the nickname of "Mosquito Meadow".    He loved taking care of his place.  He took pride in his property and always had a project going whether it was planting flowers, building suspension bridges across the creek, or giving the school children a tour of "Mosquito Meadow".  He loved sharing his paradise with others.  Bob loved traveling.  He was able to see much of the world while traveling with his daughter.  He will be remembered around Altoona as Uncle Bob who always had a joke or a story to tell.  He sincerely had a great and genuine sense of humor.

Bob's memories will live on through his children, Richard Criger and wife and daughter, Adriana Criger; his brother, Mark Criger and wife, Jo Ellen; his sisters, Virginia Marti and husband, Gary and Michele Nunnenkamp and husband, Kurt; grandchildren, Lydia Gratton, Stephanie Huddleston, Grant Criger, and Lorenzo Gamalerio; and five great-grandchildren.  He now rests with his parents, George and Helen Criger; his wife, Maria Vittoria; his brothers, Donald Criger and Jay Criger; and nephew, Martin Criger.

Cremation under the direction of Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory of Independence, Kansas has taken place, and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1223 Madison Street, Fredonia, Kansas.  Inurnment will follow at Cresco Cemetery north of Howard, Kansas.  The family suggests memorials be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and they may be sent in care of the Chapel.  To leave the family a message of condolence, please visit www.webbrodrickfuneralhome.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W.
