Roger "Lynn" Wells, former City Police Chief of Howard, Kansas, age 64, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017.  He was born in Eureka, Kansas on July 6, 1953, the son of the late Robert Wells and Lila (Meisch) Wunderlich.

Lynn received his education and graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Kansas.  He later married Patricia Carnahan in Piedmont, Kansas on June 2, 1973.  This marriage later ended in divorce.  He served the City of Howard as Police Chief for several years before joining the Elk County Sheriff's Office as deputy sheriff.  He also became an EMT for the county.  Lynn then worked for the city of Sedan, Kansas in law enforcement and finished his law career in Wilson County, Kansas at Fredonia.  He was currently working to help his mother in Piedmont, Kansas.

Lynn was a quiet man with a big, soft heart.  He loved kids, and his grandchildren describe him as "good grandpa/papa".  He truly treasured his grandkids, Tanner, Faith, Raegan, and Colter.  He would sometimes get the kids riled up and absolutely loved to wrestle with them. He often took the oldest grandson, Tanner, fishing, which was a hobby Lynn loved as well.  Always, Lynn was a kid at heart as he had several toys and electronics.  He had the latest gadget whether it was a remote control helicopter or, as of late, a drone.

Survivors include his daughters, Michelle and husband, Kevin Weber of Howard, Kansas and Melissa Baumgartel of El Dorado, Kansas; his mother, Lila Wunderlich of Piedmont, Kansas; his siblings, Carolyn Gulick of Emporia, Kansas and Annette Wells and Rebecca Courter, both of Piedmont, Kansas; Ronnie Wells of Atlanta, Kansas; and Jody McCollum of Fall River, Kansas; and his four grandchildren, Tanner and Faith Weber and Raegan and Colter Baumgartel.  Lynn was predeceased by his brother, Randall "Randy" Wells, his sister, Marcella Wells, his father, Robert L. Wells, and his stepfather, Jim Wunderlich.

A visitation is set for Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  The funeral service will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard with interment following at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lynn's memory to West Elk High School Wrestling Program and may be left with or sent to the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E.
