William Wesley "Wes" Banning, 84, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away October 10, 2017 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.  He was born June 14, 1933 in the Lowe Community in Kansas. 

Wes graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kansas in 1952 and completed a brief stint in the United States Army.  In September 1953, he married Virginia, the prettiest of the Malone girls in his eyes.  They made their home in Sedan, Kansas where they raised their four children.  He worked for KDOT, retiring after 44 years.  He worked his way up from a laborer to the Area Supervisor in Chautauqua and Elk Counties.  He and Virginia purchased the Malone family farm in the Belknap Community, residing there for years.  They moved to Howard, Kansas for seven years and recently moved to Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas.

Wes was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church.,  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.  He was an avid fan of softball and baseball.  He kept his knife sharp and loved to whittle.  He loved to go to the VFW mountain oyster feeds and was an avid and accomplished pitch, pinochle, and horse shoe player,.

Wes is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia; his sons, Ricky of Burden, Kansas, Russell and wife, Audra of Burden, Kansas, and Randall of Wichita, Kansas; his daughter, Renee and husband, Robin of Guthrie, Oklahoma; his 8 grandchildren, Heather, Joshua, Kylee, Shelby, Felicia, Randi, Jameslee, and Katy; and 7 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Blanche Banning and sisters, Eleanor, Thelma, Neva Jean, Treva, Lois, Beulah, and Glodene.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas.  Interment will follow at the Belknap Community Cemetery in Belknap, Chautauqua County, Kansas.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The family will greet visitors during this time.  A memorial has been established in Wes's name for Cumbernauld Village Hope Fund.  Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156 which is in charge of arrangements.
