Rita L. Conner, age 85, of Independence, Kansas, passed away September 14, 2017 at Eagle Estates in Independence.  She was born August 20, 1932 in Olpe, Kansas to Ernest and Elizabeth (Erpelding) Dieker.

Rita attended and graduated from Emporia High School in Emporia, Kansas.  She married Jack J. Conner on September 15, 1951.  The couple made their home in Leoti, Kansas for almost 20 years where they farmed.  After their retirement, they moved to Bernice, Oklahoma to enjoy living on Grand Lake.  After 58 years of marriage, Jack died in 2009.  Rita moved back to Independence to the Eagle Estates in 2015.

Rita is survived by one daughter, Denise Jones of Longton, Kansas, one son, Kevin Conner of Maryville, Illinois; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and one brother.

Cremation has taken place.  A family memorial service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements were under the direction of Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
