Larry Vaughn "John" Spiller, age 75, formerly of Moline, Kansas, passed away suddenly at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kansas on Monday, September 4, 2017.  He was born on July 28, 1942, one of three children born to Fred and Leah Mae (Lampson) Spiller in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

John, as his grandfather nicknamed him early on, was a great compassionate and very helpful person.  His son compared him to John Wayne - never met a stranger he didn't like.  One of those friends became his wife when he married Corliss Christeen Ruddle on October 17, 1964 in Elk Falls, Kansas.  John and Corliss became the proud parents of a son, Jon Spiller, who said thAt he had the best father and grandfather for his two daughters and his mother had the best husband.

John spent many years as a rock crusher at BellCo Materials after graduating from Moline High School.  He was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church and had a strong work ethic.  In his spare time, he liked to tinker in his garage on a variety of things.  He loved to make things and especially loved outdoor activities.  Even more than that, he loved being with his family.  They meant the world to him.  John hAd many friends from California to Kansas and be will missed by many.

John is survived by his wife, Corliss of Stillwater, Oklahoma; his son, Jon Spiller of Stillwater, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Jessica (Ricky) Kriege of Skiatook, Oklahoma and Kellie (John Lee) Pate of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; his sister, Linda Ellis of Santee, California; his brother, Mike Spiller, Sr. of Delaware, Oklahoma; and Jeff and Kristine Carins of Stillwater, Oklahoma.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Moline United Methodist Church with Pastor Dena Allison officiating.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been suggested to the Moline United Methodist Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
