Dale Dean Chamberlain, age 81, passed away August 11, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas following a brief illness.  He was born in Piedmont, Kansas on July 13, 1936 to Glenn and Viola (Lauffer) Chamberlain.

Dale graduated from Severy High School in 1954.  Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Army and was later transferred to the Army Reserves.  It was during that time in the Reserves that he helped with the aftermath of the Udall tornado in 1955.  While in the Army Reserves, Dale also played baseball which may account for his absolute love of the sport along with being an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the KU basketball team and Kansas City Royals baseball team.

Dale lived in Abilene, Kansas and Junction City, Kansas when his children were little where he had a Greyhound kennel and sold insurance for Farm Bureau.  On the weekends, he traveled to Severy to farm, coyote hunt in the area, and see his kids.

On October 18, 1966, he married Venita (Pepper) Shepherd who survives at their home, and they combined their two families.  Dale had his own insurance agency, Junction Insurance, and he and Venita also had a kennel where they raised smaller breed dogs.  He was a very punctual man, never late to any appointment or event as long as it was in his control.  He was very good with phone numbers, remembering people's names and faces which served him well with his insurance career.

Dale leaves behind his loving wife, Venita; daughters, Karen (Kurt) Swint of Udall, Kansas and Mary (Kel) Scott of Leon, Kansas; stepdaughter, Sherrie (Rick) Bunyard of Severy, Kansas; and stepson, Shawn (Theresa) Shepherd of Rock, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Viola Chamberlain; his sister, Donna Brown; his son, Gary Chamberlain; and his stepsons, Wayne Shepherd and Mike Shepherd.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Severy Church of the Nazarene, 217 N. Greenwood in Severy, Kansas.  Interment will immediately follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been suggested to the local chapters of the FFA and may be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
