Derrick Wunderlich was born May 31, 1995 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Suzie L. (Phillippi) Wunderlich and Jeffery A. Battaglear.  Derrick's early childhood was spent in Coffeyvile, Kansas.  When he was five years old, Bill A. Wunderlich, the man who would adopt him seven years later, entered his life.  In 2004, Derrick and his parents moved to Severy, Kansas where they currently reside.

Derrick was better known as D-Rod, a nickname given to him by his close friends.  He was known as a laid-back, easy-going, go-with-the-flow young man.  He loved tinkering with his "Shaggin' Wagon", a 1978 Buick Skylark.  As a teenager, he enjoyed listening to music, playing video games, and hangng out with his friends, but most of all he enjoyed fishing.

Derrick passed away July 15, 2017 at the age of 22 in Coffeyville, Kansas.  He is survived by his parents, Susie and Bill Wunderlich; brothers, Jake and Barret; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Tommie Phillippi of Dearing, Kansas; and paternal grandparents, Harry and Connie Wunderlich of Piedmont, Kansas.  Surviving uncles are Jerry and wife, Melissa of Kansas City, Missouri, Brad Phillippi of Norton, Kansas, Danny Phillippi and wife, Shadana of Claremore, Oklahoma; Harry L. Wunderlich and wife, Karen of Piedmont, Kansas, David Wunderlich of Piedmont, Kansas, and Jack Wunderlich and wife, Jennifer of Grenola, Kansas; Surviving aunts are Peggy and husband, Titus of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Angela Phillippi of Independence, Kansas, and Kristy Hall of Trenton, Texas.  Sixteen cousins also survive.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Memorials may be brought to or mailed to the Countryside Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.
