Gena Laurette Kimzey, age 60, of Longton, Kansas, passed away June 11, 2017 at her home.  She was born July 29, 1956 in Fredonia, Kansas to Gene and Melba (Edwards) Johnson.

Gena was a graduate of Elk Valley High School in Longton as well as a graduate of Labette County Community College where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse.  On May 31, 1975, she married Kevin Kimzey and was the love of his life for 42 years and 11 days. 

Gena was an active member of the Longton community and a Longton County Fair Board member.  She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, and reading, but most of all she loved and enjoyed her kids and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Kevin Kimzey of the home; her children, Andrea Renee Kimzey (Michael) Winters and Joseph Gene (Tatum) Kimzey; her grandchildren; Miles Andrew Gadelman, Keeli Jo Kimzey, and Karci Lee Kimzey; her siblings, Seth Johnson, Sean Tindle, and Licia Nichols.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Tami Laurette Kimzey.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas.  Funeral services will follow on  Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with private family burial to follow.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been suggested to the American Kidney Foundation and may be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736 which is in charge of arrangements.
