Denelda Celestine Avers, 98, formerly of Piedmont and Rose Hill, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Augusta, Kansas.  She was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma on January 21, 1919 to Blanche Edna (Mann) and Vern Burdett Guthrie.

On June 21, 1947, Denelda and Deryl Arthur Avers were married in Wellington, Kansas.  She worked as a nurse's aide at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Denelda is survived by her daughter, Vicky Wedman and husband, Tom of Piedmont, Kansas; her son, Barry Avers and wife, Anita of Wichita, Kansas; her sister, Wenonah Meyers of Springdale, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Sonja Kreutziger (Russ), Kyle Avers, Jonette Wallis (Rick), Robin Avers, Jessica Lindsley (Cory), Stacy Hershman, Heather Fink (Dusty), Sherry Wiseman (Charlie), Justin Wedman (Kristen) and Kristy McAlister (Scott); and 19 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Greg Avers; and her grandson, Brian Avers.

Services will be held at the Rose Hill United Methodist Church in Rose Hill, Kansas on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at the Belle Plaine Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Kansas.  Memorial donations may be made to the Native American Link, P.O.
