Verna Marie (Wade) Agard, age 100, passed away February 28, 2017.  She was born on October 3, 1916 to Oliver Francis Wade and Sarah Elizabeth (Moore) Wade.  She was the third-born of twelve children.

Verna grew up on a farm in Piedmont, Kansas and attended Piedmont High School.  She played basketball on a state championship team.  She built airplanes at Beechcraft in Wichita, Kansas.  She raised ponies on the farm.  She loved birds and nature.  She was a kind and gentle example of strength and diligence in a life well-lived for all of her descendants.

Verna is survived by her daughters, Nadine Hancock (Dale) and Arlene Hull; her sisters, Carol Olson and Myrtle Becker; her son-in-law, Cecil Powers; her daughter-in-law, Marsha Agard; grandchildren, Rebecca Anderson (Frank), Terri Akin (Don), Susan Duncan, Stanley Hancock (Kim), Randy Hancock (Pat), Annette Ratcliff (Ken), Eric Agard (Katie), Matthew Agard (Amanda), Floyd Hull, Greg Hull, Linda Tyler, Carol Kill, and Karen Hull; 42 great-grandchildren; and 64 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund; her parents; her children, Loretha Powers and David Agard; her grandson, Luke Agard; and nine siblings.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., all at Faith Baptist Church, 417 W. Central, Andover, Kansas.  Burial will be held on March 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the Piedmont Cemetery in Piedmont, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Verna to ABW Women of Faith.  Cards may be mailed to 7067 SW Meadowlark Road, Andover, Kansas 67002.  Services are entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home of Andover, Kansas.
