Robert Dale "R.D." Scott was born on May 28, 1928 to Richard and Cora Scott of Roper, Kansas.  He passed away at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita, Kansas on January 8, 2017.

Robert graduated from Benedict High School in Benedict, Kansas in 1946 and went to work for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad as a telegrapher.  He joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he used his telegraphic skills.  He served in the Communications Section of the 578th Engineers, C Battalion, and 40th Infantry Division, receiving an honorable discharge in 1952.

He married Martha Mae (Perry) Oglesbee on February 5, 1953 and enjoyed life with her until her death in February of 2014.  On January 29, 1955, Larry D. Scott was born, and on June 1, 1957, Jeffrey Mark Scott was welcomed into the family. 

R.D. was first and foremost Martha Mae's husband, and even after her death, he served with loyalty in that capacity.  After being a wonderful husband, he held, in no specific order or position of importance, the following roles:  son, brother, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa, a loving man, Mason, Shriner, hospital dad, driver, teacher, provider, pyro-technical adviser to the 4th of July Rodeo in Moline, Kansas, coach, woodworker, defender, supporter, assistant scoutmaster, a dirty bird, gardener, hunter, fisherman, trusted friend, disciplinarian, cheerleader, had tons of patience, was soft-spoken, telegrapher, agent, clerk, carpenter, loved old western movies, was a lifelong KU basketball fan, listener, leader, decision-maker, owned and used frequently the world's greatest smile, teaser, practical joker, God-fearing man, much missed, family anchor, and DAD.

Mr. Scott is survived by his sons, Larry (Kate) Scott, Jeff (Dayna) Scott; stepson, Don (Pat) Oglesbee; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Mae; his parents; and his siblings, Erma Roney, Max Scott, and Dean Scott.

A memorial service was held at Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, Kansas on February 4, 2017 followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Memorials may be made to the Kansas Masonic Home or the Shriner's Children's Hospital in care of Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301 which was in charge of arrangements.
