Verna Arlene Belt was born August 31, 1930 in Longton, Kansas to Floyd and Hilda Josephine (Johnson) Arnold.  She grew up in Longton, Kansas and graduated from Longton High School.

On July 13, 1950, Verna married Donald L. Belt in Coffeyville, Kansas.  The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas.  Two sons were born to this union, Bobbie and David Belt.  Verna worked at Gibson's for 9 years and Electra for 9 years before retiring from ACC after 13 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence.

Survivors include a son, Bobbie and wife, Debbie Belt of Independence, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Lillian Belt of Independence, Kansas; grandchildren, Crystal Follmer and Alicia Wheeler; and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on August 18, 1988; her parents; one son, David Belt; and one sister, Wanita Foote.

Graveside services were held on November 5, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas with Pastor David Henneke of the First Baptist Church officiating.  The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society, and contributions may be left at or sent to the Potts Chapel, 122 South Penn Avenue, Independence, Kansas 67301 which is in charge of arrangements.  Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
