Linda Kay Reid, age 67, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away October 16, 2016 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.  She was born February 16, 1949 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas to Dr. Richard and Reola (Durand) Reid of Howard, Kansas. 

Linda took classes at the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, Kansas from age 4 to 6 years.  She attended Howard public schools before moving to the Parsons, Kansas Training Center and Norton, Kansas Training Center.  As an adult, she was a resident at SDSI in Garden City, Kansas, Martin Luther Homes in Winfield, Kansas, Mosaic Homes in Winfield, Kansas, and last year moved to Mosaic Homes in Pittsburg, Kansas to be closer to family.

Linda loved competing in the Kansas Special Olympics and won many medals over the years.  Linda's great-nephew, Sam Hurst, continues her interest in the Kansas Special Olympics by fundraising for the Special Olympics each year.She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, attending while she lived in Howard, Kansas.  Later, she attended church in Parsons, Norton, Winfield, and Pittsburg, Kansas.  Linda loved Jesus, her family, and anything Elvis.  She was a truly joyous person.

Survivors include her brothers, Michael and wife, Beverly Reid of Springfield, Missouri and Brad and wife, Kim Reid of Holiday, Island, Arkansas.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews, David Reid, Stephanie Reid, Jeremie Reid, Natasha (Reid) Hurst, Ashley (Reid) Hooper, Neil Brock, and Stacye Gaar.  Additional survivors include her uncle and aunt, Lewis and Gladys Reid of Salina, Kansas; her uncle, Jerry Griffith of Lawrence, Kansas; and cousins, Debbie (Reid) Mountsier, Sharon (Reid) Rauschenbach, Marsha (Reid) Franklin, Rob Griffith, Rochelle (Griffith) McKown, Susan (DeFever) Sullivan, Diane (DeFever) Klingman, Larry DeFever, and Nancy (DeFever) Komenda.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Richard and Reola Reid and her grandparents, V. L. and Eda Durand and Dr. Frank and Margaret Reid.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church in Howard, Kansas with Rev. Robin Haines conducting the service.  Graveside services will be at the Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.  Memorials are suggested are the Kansas Special Olympics or the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church and may be left with the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.
