Interesting to see the Winfield Daily Courier and the Arkansas City Traveler merged to become the Cowley Courier Traveler. The word "County" is not part of the masthead.

I don't have much information on the Traveler but the Winfield Courier was the former Elk Falls Examiner.

The new owner moved the publication to Winfield after the former editor/publisher committed suicide—in 1873.
"If one of the many corrupt...county-seat contests must be taken by way of illustration, the choice of Howard County, Kansas, is ideal." Dr. Everett Dick, The Sod-House Frontier, 1854-1890.
"One of the most expensive county-seat wars in terms of time and money lost..." Dr. Homer E Socolofsky, KSU
