Alonzo Arthur Houchin, age 79, of Fredonia, Kansas, died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Fredonia Regional Hospital.  He was born on March 15, 1937 in rural Fredonia, Kansas, the son of Wilbur Enlo and Juanita Mae (Ferguson) Houchin.

After high school, Alonzo went to work doing seismograph for oil exploration.  After retiring from there, he worked at Stephen's Tire in Fredonia from 1991 until his second retirement in 2004.  He loved watching sports, playing golf, and riding horses.  He was a member of the New Albany United Methodist Church and was very active in all the events, especially enjoying the  Chicken and Noodle Dinners.  Most of all he enjoyed being with his family.

On April 21, 19576, he married Joann Anderson  in Fredonia. They were married for 59 years, and she survives at their home.  Other survivors include his son, Roger Houchine and wife, Kathy of Fredonia, Kansas; daughter, Brenda Baugher and husband, Don of New Albany, Kansas; brothers, Jimmie Houchin of Carlsbad, New Mexico, William Houchin of Oak Harbor, Washington, Larry Houchin of Severy, Kansas, and Jerry Houchin of Severy, Kansas; sister, Alice Eshbaugh of Hutchinson, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey, Ray, Glen Edgar, Darrell, and Dale Houchin; daughter, Barbara Fraser; grandson, Brandon Baugher; and nephews, Jeremy and Kevin Houchin. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Albany Methodist Church with Pastor Susan Galvan officiating.  Burial will follow at the Weakley Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials have been suggested to either the New Albany Methodist Church or DaVita Dialysis and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services are entrusted to Countryside  Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
