Sylvia Higbee, formerly of Yates Center, Kansas, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at her home in Severy, Kansas.  She was born October 5, 1940 in Roselle, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Ann (Bitler) Meier.

Sylvia was raised in the Severy area and graduated from Severy High School.  On August 9, 1957, she was united in marriage to Orville Lee Higbee.  They made their home in Yates Center, Kansas.  To this union, three children were born.  Sylvia worked as an accountant in a distillery and ranched cattle with Orville.  She also was a dispatcher for the Woodson County Sheriff's Office.  Orville preceded her in death on February 12, 2014 at which time she moved to Severy.

Sylvia is survived by three children, Barbara and husband, Rocky Strickler of Eureka, Kansas, Roy and wife, Tamara Higbee of Severy, Kansas, and Janice and husband, Gary Davis of Wichita, Kansas along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Neal Cemetery in Neal, Kansas.  Pastor Tony Pameticky of the Severy Baptist Church will officiate.
