Elmer Louis Cook, age 81, of Longton, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at his home in Longton.  He was born September 6, 1934 in Capron, Oklahoma to Albert Darrel Cook and Dorothea Mae (Schwanz) Cook.

Elmer attended school in Udall, Kansas, graduating from Udall High School in the Class of 1953.  After high school, he attended one year of vo-tech school.  In 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country until he was honorably discharged in 1958.

In May of 1958, he married Donna Buchanan.  They were later divorced.  On August 12, 1967, he married Karen Kramer at the First Baptist Church in Longton.  They made their home in Longton for many years where Elmer was a farmer.  He was on the Co-Op Board of Directors and also the Elk County Free Fair Board of Directors.

Elmer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen Cook of the home in Longton, Kansas;  two sons, Vincent Cook and Shane Cook and wife, Marlene, all of Longton, Kansas; three daughters, Rose Puckett and husband, Rick of Fairland, Oklahoma, Lavone Rials of Lawrence, Kansas, and Cristy Huggins of Neodesha, Kansas; one brother, Richard Cook of Longton, Kansas; two sisters, Clara Lacey of Udall, Kansas and Glenda Jolley of Westminster, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale Cook. 

Family and friends may sign the register book on Sunday, March 27, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Longton, Kansas with family greeting friends.  Church services will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Longton with Pastor Mack Byard officiating.  Burial will follow at the Longton Cemetery.  The casket will be closed.  The family has suggested memorials to the Elk Country Free Fair or the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of Allen Family Funeral Service, 3848 W.
