Mary M. Gaddie-Gilbert, 96, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away September 13, 2015 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.  She was born July 28, 1919 in Severy, Kansas to James A. and Alva Julia (Griffith) Maben.

Mary was raised and educated in Howard, Kansas and graduated from Howard High School in 1936.  After graduation, she moved to Winfield and began working at Harbor Cafe.  She and Lloyd R. Gaddie married August 6, 1939 at Grace United Methodist Church and made their home in Winfield where Mary worked at McGillis Cafe.  Mr. Gaddie died June 19, 1973.  She worked at William Newton Hospital for many years, retiring in 1985 as a diet clerk.  On June 16, 1995, she married Hardy C. Gilbert at Grace United Methodist Church.  The couple made their home in Andover, Kansas.  Mr. Gilbert died July 31, 1998.

Mary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed sewing, stitchery, and crafts.

Survivors include her son, Jim Gaddie and wife, Marvis of Winfield, Kansas; sister, Mildred Slavik of South Bend, Indiana; grandchildren, Jana Marstall and husband, P.J. of Emporia, Kansas and Mike Gaddie and wife, Kristy of Wichita, Kansas; stepchildren, Karen Gilbert and H. Dean Gilbert, both of Wichita, Kansas, Bob Gilbert and wife, Brenda of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Julie Clopton and Joni Gilbert, both of Andover, Kansas; 5 great-grandsons; 8 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded by her parents; her husbands; her sisters, Edna Cox and Esther Rentfro; and her brother, Charles Maben.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church, 320 College Street, Winfield, Kansas.  Inurnment will follow at Union Graham Cemetery, 443 N. Our sympathy goes out to Jim and the rest of the family. When I stayed with my older brother Neil in Winfield in the early 50s we ate at the Cafe where Mary worked, she and Neil knew each other from their growing up days in Howard in the 30s. Mary was a real neat and special lady. Frank Winn
