Herb Hartley of Osage, City, Kansas passed away on June 12, 2015 at his home.  He was born on November 28, 1934 in Lake City, Kansas to Wilber and Jessie (Sisk) Hartley.

Herb was a 1952 graduate of Howard High School in Howard, Kansas.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Administration from Kansas State University in May of 1956.  On September 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Nella Ruth Bryan in Howard, Kansas.  The couple had 7 children.

Herb was an editor for the Doane Agricultural Service as well as an editor for many small town newspapers.  He earned a Master's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Kansas State University in 1983.  Until his retirement, Herb was a security guard for the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Herb was a member of the Buhler United Methodist Church.  He was also an avid golfer, an avid reader, and loved spending his time attending his grandchildren's activities.

Herb is survived by his sons, Wesley Hartley and fiancee, Shari of Omaha, Nebraska and Tom Hartley and wife, Geri of Ozawkie, Kansas; his daughters, Jane Hartley of New Strawn, Kansas, Sarah Doubeck and husband, Doug of Topeka, Kansas, Allyson Christman and husband, Todd of Lecompton, Kasnas, Blanche Wulfekoetter and husband, Mitch of Ozawki, Kansas, and Maggi Martinie and husband, Doug of Manhattan, Kansas; and his sister, Gerry ReQue and husband, John of Winfield, Kansas.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Nella on November 14, 2014.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Howard United Methodist Church in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Scott Hannon officiating.  Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Memorials have been requested to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and may be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 which has been entrusted with service arrangements.
