Pastor C.E. "Gene" DeWitt left this world surrounded by family and friends on May 12, 2015.  He entered the world the very same way.  Born on August 5, 1931, Pastor DeWitt began life in Mont Ida, Kansas to Rev. Warren and Ruby DeWitt.

Pastor DeWitt graduated from Welda High School in 1949 and from Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri in 1963.  In later years he attended Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas.

He met and married Judy Crosby while serving in the United States Air Force in Amarillo, Texas.  Through 62 years of ministry, Pastor DeWitt served churches in Kansas, Missouri, California, and Texas.  He served the First Baptist Church in Howard, Kansas for several years.  He retired at the age of 83 on October 12, 2014 while serving as interim pastor of First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas.

Pastor DeWitt did not consider himself a professional preacher; he considered himself a pastor.  He was a man who served from the heart.  He loved his Lord through the end.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his sons, Howard and wife, Dianne, Marty and wife, Rhonda, and Dan and wife, Linda; his brother, Leonard and wife, Betty; grandchildren, Luke, Levi, Michael, Angela, Kristin, Jessica, Veronica, Kari and husband, Dan, and Jeremy and wife, Keron; and great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Baylee, Ely, Kaden, Riley, Dylan, Grace, Nathaniel, Paul, James Michael, and Jacob.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his great-grandson, Gage.

The Celebration of Life service will be at the Uniontown First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown, Kansas on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.  A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Oswego, Kansas cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel Funeral Home of Caney, Kansas.  Online condolences may be shared at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.  The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gideon's International or the Uniontown Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.
