Nella Ruth (Bryan) Hartley, age 79, a resident of Osage City, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at Osage Nursing Care.  She was born on July 26, 1935 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Brooks Cecil and Sarah Elizabeth (Miller) Bryan. 

Nella graduated from Howard High School in 1952 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.  On September 2, 1956, Nella was united in marriage to J. Herbert "Herb" Hartley in Howard, Kansas.  She worked hard at a variety of jobs: daughter, sister, wife, and mother.  Prior to her retirement, she worked for the Kansas Department of Corrections as a parole officer.  Nella was a member of the Buhler United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Order of Eastern Star.

Nella is survived by her husband, Herb Hartley of Osage City, Kansas; sons, Wes (Shari Wit) Hartley of Omaha, Nebraska and Tom (Geri) Hartley of Ozawkie, Kansas; daughters, Jane Hartley of New Strawn, Kansas, Sarah (Doug) Doubek of Topeka, Kansas, Allyson (Todd) Christman of LeCompton, Kansas, Blanche (Mitch) Wulfekoetter of Ozawkie, Kansas, and Maggi (Doug) Martinie of Manhattan, Kansas; her brother, Paul (Yvonne) Bryan of Valley Center, Kansas; her aunt, Margaret Olson of Wichita, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda Yacconi.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Howard United Methodist Church in Howard, Kansas.  Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas.  Memorials are suggested to either the Osage Nursing Center or the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E.
