Gertrude W. Ray, age 91, died September 12, 2014 at St. Luke Living Center in Marion, Kansas.  She was born August 25, 1923 in Piedmont, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Imogene Powers.

Gertrude was raised and educated in Piedmont, Kansas.  On August 7, 1944, she was married to Elmer "Bob" Ray in Sedan, Kansas.  She was a rancher's wife and taught school a few years after high school.  The couple moved to Marion, Kansas in 1981.

Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Jackson and Cheryl Ray, both of Marion, Kansas; brothers, Cecil Powers of Andover, Kansas and Harold "Sonny" Powers of El Dorado, Kansas; stepsister, Esther Samuels of El Dorado, Kansas; grandchildren, Jeff Jackson, Robb Hartley, and Vicki Wiliams; and 4 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008; her parents; and her brother, Jackie Powers.

Service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion, Kansas at 10:00 a.m.  Committal will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Piedmont Cemetery in Piedmont, Kansas.  A memorial has been established at the Marion Library in Marion, Kansas.  Zeiner Funeral Homes, 205 Elm Street, Marion, Kansas 66861 is in charge of arrangements.
