Thomas Henry Burrus of Eureka, Kansas died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Wesley Medical Cednter in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 82.  Tom was born on November 15, 1931 in DeKalb, Illinois, the son of Oscar Augusta and Anita Marie Dalby Burrus

He moved to Severy, Kansas when he was eight years old and attended school in Fall River, Kansas.  After his schooling, he joined the National Guard.  After his discharge, Tom moved to California.  Later he moved to Plainville where he opened his own welding business.  He then moved to Cheney and became an over-the-road truck driver working to various companies such as Halliburton and Young's Construction.  Tom also lived in various parts of Oklahoma before moving to Eureka in 1998 after his retirement. 

In 1955, he married Vera Graham in Fall River, Kansas, and this marriage later ended in divorce.  Then in 1972, he married Joyce Sprick in Plainville, and this marriage also ended in divorce.

He is survived by his sons, Tony Bahr of Severy, Kansas and Justin Burrus of Colby, Kansas; longtime companion, Barbara Smith; and two sisters, Patty STrickle and Karen Ebberts, both of Eureka, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson, Maverick Thomas Burrus.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Firday, July 25, 2014 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, Kansas with Pastor John Craighead of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating.  Interment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  Visitation hours are from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Nursing Center.  Contr4ibutions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, 121 N. Oak Street, Eureka, Kansas 67045 which is in charge of arrangements.
