James Russell "Jim" Simons, age 81, a resident of Severy, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  He was born on August 24, 1932 in Severy, Kansas, the son of Joseph Elmer and Doris Genevieve (Moor) Simons.

Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.  On July 4, 1953, Jim married Marina Shipman, and they later divorced.  In March 1959, Jim married Dorothy Picolet, and she preceded him in death in October 1978.  On November 24, 1981, he married Dorothy "Dottie" Wunderlich in Howard, Kansas.  He was a farmer, logger, and owner/operator of his own trucking company.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie of Severy, Kansas; 3 daughters, Judy Towns and her husband, Kevin of Oxford, Kansas, Angelia Perry and her husband, Mic of Manhattan, Kansas, and Anette Warden of Pflugerville, Texas; one son, Russell Simons of Riley, Kansas; 3 stepsons, Kelvin Wade, Gary Wade, and Craig Wade, all of Severy, Kansas; 3 sisters, Joyce Smith of Wichita, Kansas, Carol Lowderman of BelAire, Kansas, and Kaye Turner of Arkansas City, Kansas; 2 brothers, John Simons, of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Bob Simons of Arkansas City, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joanne Harper and Phyllis Elder. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 ap.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas with Keith Wunderlich officiating.  Viewing will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  Memorials are suggested to Greenwood County Hospital and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E.
