Bernadine P. Zane, 86, a resident of the Whitehall Bay area at Fall River Lake and formerly of Wichita, Kansas, died February 19. 2014 at her home.  She was born December 23, 1927 in Mansfield, Missouri, the daughter of John Ernest and Cora (Quessenberry) Schlicher.

Bernadine was the owner of Bernadine's Cafe and Our Place in Wichita, Kansas for over 30 years.  On January 12, 1968 in Wichita, she was joined in marriage to Squire Boone Zane.  He preceded her in death July 2, 2003.

Bernadine was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and loved to crochet.  Her favorite times were the times she spent at family and friend gatherings.

Bernadine's survivors include six children, Clark Wade of Crescent City, California, Debbie Wade of Fall River, Kansas, Larry Wade of Cookson, Oklahoma, Ronald Zane of Valley Center, Kansas, Daniel Zane of Rose, Oklahoma, and Jacquetta McMullen of Fall River, Kansas; sister, Ernestine Lynch of Arroyo Grande, California; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.  Her husband, her parents, and two sisters, Betty Jo McWhorter and Winifred Schlicher, preceded her in death.

Funeral service was held on February 26, 2014 at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas with Rev. Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiating.  Burial was in Whitehall Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in Bernadine's name with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home, P.O.
