Joan Karsting, age 82, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Smith County Long Term Care in Smith Center, Kansas.  She was born on January 27, 1931 in rural Elk County, Kansas to Harold Noakes and Grace Marie (Griffith) Noakes-Sharp. 

Joan was the eldest of 9 children.  She was a homemaker, CNA, and seamstress throughout her life. 

She is survived by her son, Scott and Catherine Karsting of LaVergne, Tennessee; her daughter, Deb and Gary Wagenblast of Smith Center, Kansas; 3 granddaughters, Stephanie (Rich), Mindi (Todd), and Nichole; one great-granddaughter, Faith; one great-grandson, Wyatt; 4 sisters; 3 brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace (Griffith) Sharp; her father, Harold Noakes; and her sister, Sharon (Sharp) Schouten.

A Celebration of Life service was held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary in Smith Center, Kansas.  Burial was held on Friday, January 10, 2014 in the Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Smith County Long Term Care which may be sent in care of the funeral home:  Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary, 116 W. First Street, Smith Center, Kansas 66967.

Joan was my daddy's oldest sister. She was a super sweet lady who's company I greatly enjoyed.
