Reola Reid has passed away.  Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Flint Hills Assembly of God in Howard, Kansas at 1:30 p.m.

Reola Louise Reid, 91, of Howard, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Strafford Care Center in Strafford, Missouri.  She was born November 8, 1921 in Hoisington, Kansas to Vernon L. "V.L."  and Eda Durand.

Reola attended Hoisington schools and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1939.  She then continued her education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, graduating with a degree in Bacteriology in 1943.  On July 24, 1943 in Emporia, Kansas, she married Richard Roberts Reid.  They lived in Kansas City, Missouri while Richard finished his dental studies.  During this time, Reola worked for Breone Laboratories working with their pharmaceutical division.

After finishing dental studies, Richard entered active U.S. Navy service, and they moved to San Diego, California where he was stationed until discharge in 1946.  Richard and Reola moved to Howard, Kansas in 1946 and began their family with Richard Michael, Linda Kay, and Bradley Alan born to their union.  After primarily being a homemaker and raising their children, in later years Reola worked in Richard's dental practice assisting him with patients until his retirement in 1988.

Reola was a member of the Howard Presbyterian Church until it closed.  Then she attended the First Baptist Church and also the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church.  She was active in the Republican Party, PEO, and volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross.  

Survivors include her sons, Michael Reid and wife, Beverly of Springfield, Missouri and Brad Reid and wife, Kim of Holiday Island, Arkansas; her daughter, Linda Reid of Winfield, Kansas; grandchildren, David Reid, Stephanie Reid, Jeremie Reid, Natasha (Reid) Hurst, Ashley (Reid) Hopper, Neil Brock, and Stacye Gaar; and 18 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, V.L. and Eda Durand; her husband, Dr. Richard Reid; and her sister, Dorothy Griffith.

Memorial services were held on April 6, 2013 at the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church in Howard, Kansas with the Rev. Robin Haines officiating.  Graveside service followed at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.  Memorials are suggested for the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church or Special Olympics, and contributions may be left with the church.
