HOWARD-- William Harold Hufford, 82, long time Howard resident, died April 16, 2006 at Howard Twilight Manor.

Services are 10 a.,. Thursday at the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard. Pastor Darrell Spicer of the Howard Independent Baptist Church will officiate.  Military funeral honors will be conducted by Carter-Rader Post # 149 at Grace Lawn cemetery in Howard.

A memorial has been established with the Howard Independent Baptist Church and contributions may be left with or sent to the funeral home.

Hufford was born Nov.11, 1923 on a farm south of Severy to John Matthew and Velma Alice (Pennebaker) Hufford.  He attended rural Elk County schools, graduating from Howard High School in 1941.

In 1944, Hufford enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II.  After being honorably discharged in 1946, he returned to Elk County where he owned and operated a farm throughout his life.

On Sept. 22, 1973, he married Betty June Wright at McCune and they made their home on Harold's farm north of Howard. Betty preceded him in death on Nov. 1991.

On June 23, 1998, he married Frances Louise (McMahon) Talbert at Howard.  They made their home in Howard before he became a resident of the Howard Twilight Manor.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Carter-Rader Post #149 in Howard and a member of the Howard Independent Baptist Church.

Hufford is survived by his wife, Frances, of Howard; two step-sons, Floyd Cline, Virginia and Clarence Merchant, Wichita; two step-daughters, Peggy Hinkle, Winfield, and Linda Jones, Angleton, Texas; a half-brother, Jim Hufford, Hutchinson; a half-sister, Joyce Van Buren, Plevna, a nephew and a cousin.
