Timothy J. Hobson, 67, of Salina, Kansas, died Friday, August 16, 2013.  He was born December 8, 1945 in Pittsburg, Kansas to George Don Hobson and Helen L. (Carder) Hobson.

Tim was a 1963 graduate of Howard High School in Howard, Kansas.  On June 4, 1966, he married Suzanne E. North.  Tim was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina and was active in many community organizations including the Salina Symphony, Salina Municipal Band, EAA Chapter No. 1127, Salina Community Theater Orchestra, Salina Resilience Group, The Land Institute, and was a founding member of the Wheatlands Brass Quintet.

Tim was a leader in the field of waste water treatment, teaching for 29 years at Salina Vocational Technical School.  He worked for the EPA and was an influential member of the Kansas Water Environmental Association.  Tim worked as an independent consultant to numerous waste water treatment facilities throughout the country and authored a text on the subject that is used worldwide.  Tim received numerous awards for his work including the National EPA John H. Simpson Award in 1990 and the 2004 Jim Current Award for Professional Excellence.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne, of the home; children, Scott Hobson and wife, Deonne of Olathe, Kansas, John Hobson and wife, Jennifer of Salina, Kansas, Jeanne Briscoe and husband, Andre of Lorton, Virginia, and Anne Hoekstra and husband, Steve of Salina, Kansas; brother, Carder Hobson and wife, Vaughn of Cary, North Carolina; sister, Lin (Linda) Hobson Williston and husband, Rick of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E. Neal, Salina, Kansas with the Rev. Barry Dundas officiating.  Memorials may be made to the Land Institute or Salina Symphony and may be sent or left in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, Kansas 67401.
