Historical Tidbit:

The Kansas Territorial Legislature created thirty-six original Kansas counties in Kansas on August 30, 1855.

One of those thirty-six counties was Godfrey, which became Seward, which became Howard, which became Elk and Chautauqua.

Another of the thirty-six originals was Arapahoe County.

Arapahoe County still exists today although much smaller than originally designated.

At one time Denver City was the county seat.

Today, Littleton is the county seat.

My home is in Arapahoe County in Centennial, which is about 12 miles east of the county seat and about 60 miles east of the original western boundary of Arapahoe County.

From Helen Gill 1903 thesis, Kansas State University

"If one of the many corrupt...county-seat contests must be taken by way of illustration, the choice of Howard County, Kansas, is ideal." Dr. Everett Dick, The Sod-House Frontier, 1854-1890.
"One of the most expensive county-seat wars in terms of time and money lost..." Dr. Homer E Socolofsky, KSU
