James Monroe McCallister, son of Calvin and Sarah McCallilster, was born in Linn county, Missouri, April 3, 1854 and died at his home near Piedmont, Kansas, December 25, 1930 at 7 p.m., being at the age of 76 years, 8 months, and 22 days.

On March 23, 1877 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Moody.  To this union three children were born; namely Mrs. Florence Wilson of Piedmont, Kansas, William A. who died in infancy and John Thomas who passed away in 1928.  He, with his wife, settled on the old homestead in 1879 which was their home until the time of their death, she preceding him to the Great Beyond in 1914.

In 1917 he was again united in marriage, this time to Sarah Travis Schoeller, who passed from this life August 30, 1927.

He was a good citizen, honest and upright and in his going he leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. Florence Wilson of Piedmont, one step-son, Carl Schoeller of Wichita, Kansas, two granddaughters and two great grandsons, other relatives and a host of friends.

At the age of 19 years he confessed his faith in Christ and has been a faithful follower ever since, being a member of the Christian church.  A faithful one from us is gone, a voice we loved is still; a place is vacant in our home that can never be filled.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church, with Rev. C. Z. Allsbury officiating.  Interment was made at Bunker Hill cemetery.
