Happy Anniversary Teresa and Kjell. Ours is today too. Hope you are off having fun somewhere. It's our 44th  and we decided to go to Wesley's in Maryland for their famous (here anyway) summer seafood buffet. Lots of choices and a big salad bar. Otherwise we'll be watering anything that will sit still long enough to get wet. The heat has returned big time (95 today) and it's suddenly very dry. We may get a quick thunderstorm this evening, but it's not a sure thing.Have a great day and stay cool if you can.

Woo... bad things all over. We had another quick but nasty storm swoop through here yesterday evening. It also pounded the Cecil County (Maryland) Fair. We had passed it going and coming from our great meal at Wesley's.
A little while ago I found out that two of my friends of many, many years were badly injured this morning in Virgina when they were caught in a tornado. It swept though the area, including a camp ground . Shelly is critical with a FX femur and other injuries and her husband has at least a back injury. I think their kids were spared or had minor injuries. A mutual girlfriend is getting ready to drive down and try to get them to bring home to Delaware if she can.  Please, prayers for them all.

We heard from our tornado victim friends on facebook. They were very lucky not to have come out worse. Two people were killed when a big tree flattened their tent. Their big camper was rolled over onto it's top and totaled. Their two kids were trapped under their beds, but not injuried more than minor bumps and brusies. Shelly and Dave had just gotten out of bed to deal with the big side awning and close the door when they were suddenly struck and rolled. It all happened very quickly as these things often do.  A wooded camp ground in a tent or camper is not where one wants to be when even a small tornado hits.
Shelly ended up with a dislocated and fractured hip and Dave had a wreched back, bruised ribs and a foot laceration.  Delaware City, their fire company, sent one of their ambulances down to bring her back to Christiana hospital near here. Hope you all have a good day.

Shelly had her hip surgery and is doing great. The bone was strong so they were able to put in a couple of screws instead of replacing the whole thing. She'll be home tomorrow and on crutches for a few weeks.as an RN she knowshow to take care of herself.
Yesterday we had our big annual fire company picnic. Beautiful weather. 82 and dry, wow. We had huge crabs and all the other usual picnic fare, with pony rides and bounce houses for the kids... a beautiful day visiting with lots of friends.

OKAY!!!! Who's making all that noise banging on the door?  Knock knock indeed.

Speaking of hip surgery, my wife has been experiencing severe hip pain lately.  MRI showed that all the cartilage in the right hip joint is gone and she is at the Orthopedist as we speak, I mean, type.  She made the comment this morning that she was in far better shape 40 years ago when we got married than she is now..................

DUH!

Hip replacement surgery is in her near future.

Ok, next time I'll tap on your bedroom window or whisper through your mail slot if you have one.
I'm sorry your wife has a hip replacement in her future. Fortunately the modern kind are very good, and most people are very pleased with the results. Lots of physical therapy though. My one friend said the worst part for her was not being able to cut her own toe nails anymore. I'm not sure if that is always the case or just her.  Safety Town started yesterday so I stopped by and dropped off the 911 simulator telephone and some hand outs, fire safety and 911 themed coloring books . really cute kids.
Tomorrow I go back to do a fire safety talk for the parents that are able to come. Avoiding match play, kitchen fires, candle fires, exit practice, smoke detectors and proper 911 calls are part of what we'll talk about. I always get to hear some great stories from the parents about fires or near misses they've had.I learn a lot from them about human behavior and what people really do ,which isn't always what they were taught.

Sounds like you have been busy, Miss Diane!!!  :D  Those kiddos are lucky to have you there, reminding them about fire safety!

Yes, camp time is a busy time for us. It's not just me of course. All the fire companies here are heavy duty into kids' fire safety,as are the parents and teachers .It does seem to work too. Delaware has very few fires started by kids. Now if I could just make some headway on careless candle use.
