Another day, another serious thunderstorm. It must be July in Delaware. Had a lot of lightning strike caused fires yesterday evening, along with a short but heavy mash- the- plants- down- rainfall. It's already done it again this evening and more is due soon.
I need to get out and do more weeding tomorrow. It is supposed to be nice with less humidity.
Our annual young ground hog is causing problems again. It has managed to avoid the trap and has stayed out of my veggies, but is ruining my one flower bed by eating the freshly planted stuff I put in during May and June. I may have to take stronger action.
I see it's time to put one more closed minded local yokel out there on ignore.  Been gone for a very long time  and starts right out showing his true colors. tsk.tsk  Watch out for those storms.

AH.That Canadian Vortex thing came slumping down and dropped all the humidity out here. We've had two beautiful days but it was toss- another- log -on- the- fire- Gertie last night...really chilly. Tonight...steaks, sweet corn, grilled pineapple, sweet potatoes and cantaloupe.Hooray for the farmers market!

Veterans show Obama how they turn their backs on him, as he has done to them!

Angry veterans protested President Obama's visit to Delaware to show their disdain for how the administration has treated them.

The 25 protesters — led by Martin Nicholson, a veteran Marine – lined the street and turned their backs to the president's passing motorcade.

"We feel he's turned his back on us veterans, so we're going to turn our backs on him as he drives by on his motorcade to show our appreciation that he does not care about us veterans," Nicholson told BuzzPo.com.

Obama was in Delaware to discuss a recently damaged bridge, a topic the protesters call a waste of Obama's time when much bigger issues demand his attention, including the Veterans Affairs scandal and the invasion of illegal immigrants.

"Take care of your own first," protester John Stroud told BuzzPo. "There are Americans that need help first. I think there are more important things you could be doing than coming to Delaware to look at a bridge."

The Delaware bridge began to tilt after an unknown party dumped 50 tons of soil next to it. Repairs are expected to cost taxpayers $20 million, according to DelawareOnline.com.

No matter where he goes or what he does, someone will protest something. When he comes here we all just avoid the area because it causes all kinds of traffic detours and snarls and ties up our police, fire services and ambulances.  Frankly, all the preplanning is a pain in the neck. So is the bridge closure. It is a main artery and has caused a real mess for traffic traveling through Delaware."They" know a lot more than is being made public and heads should roll over it.
The several Charcoal Pits have been around forever.  They were the first to make charcoal grilled burgers here, and still make very good burgers with good quality meat, accompanied by real milkshakes. They name their menu items for the local high schools, and their big punch bowl sized "kitchen sink" ice cream sundae dessert is legendary.  Ya need about 8 hungry teenagers to eat it all, even though it is advertized to feed "two to four".

I'm very proud to brag that Newark Charter School came out very high again in state testing, and in the comparison from last year to this year.

Here's another interesting connection between Kansas and Delaware that will make a few of the grumpies snarl.
I know you had a Kansas soldier come home recently from the Alaska incident where the C124 crashed and was swallowed by the Colony glacier in 1952. We had one on board too. He arrives back home on Thursday.
Col.Eugene Smith, who had been selected to head the new USAF Alaska Air Command's OSI, was lost with 51 others when their plane crashed on the glacier. The warming temps. are causing many of the glaciers to recede and many interesting things are becoming visible.
He was educated here at Salesianum High School in Wilmington, a very good Catholic high school. He went into the Delaware National Guard and eventually wound up as a 2nd LT. in WWII, in Africa .
