Ala. Senate Approves Ten Commandments Displays

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The Alabama Senate has approved a proposed constitutional amendment to protect the display of the Ten Commandments in public buildings.

The Senate voted 23-1 Tuesday for the legislation sponsored by Republican Sen. Gerald Dial of Lineville. The bill still must be approved by the House and by voters in a statewide referendum before it can take effect.

An interesting dilema regarding the principle of the separation of church and state. Here are the two constitutional decisions by the US Supreme Court regarding similar cases to the proposed Alabama bill. It will be interesting to see how they will rule if this comes to their purview. They have been bouncing back and forth on these type of decisions. Here are the two most recent US Supreme court cases on the issue.

Van Orden v. Perry  and McCreary County v. ACLU of Kentucky. One seems to approve of this type of activity one doesn't.
