Mary Elizabeth Baker, age 95, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico and formerly of Howard, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Las Palomas Care and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born on June 10, 1917 in Elgin, Kansas, the daughter of Cornelius Ray and Roxie Marie (Stroble) Wiseman.

Mary was united in marriage to William "Bill" Baker on May 6, 1950 in Washington County, Arkansas.  Bill and Mary met in the restaurant she owned at the time in Howard, Kansas.  Soon after marriage, they moved to Wichita, Kansas where they lived until 1967 when they moved to Coffeyville, Kansas.  They returned to Howard in 1984.  Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Howard and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She worked as a volunteer at the Friendship Meals Senior Center for over 15 years.

Mary is survived by one son, Donald Baker of Long Beach, California; one daughter, Kathleen Lyon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers, Louis Wiseman of Howard, Kansas, John Wiseman of Amarillo, Texas, and Robert Wiseman of Decatur, Texas; two sisters, Lena Tajchman of Omaha, Nebraska and Marie Stauffer of Checotah, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Baker; one daughter, Judy Bennett; and four brothers, Kenton Wiseman, Milo Wiseman, J.C. Wiseman, and Ivan Wiseman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Howard, Kansas.  Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.  Interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to either the First Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, or Friendship Meals and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.
