The event was held at the VFW in Fredonia and more than 200 family and friends came to honor the couple.

Harley Dean Gilbert and Patty Jo Morris met in the spring of 1966 in Longton. He was 32 and she was 22 with a young son, Jerry.  Patty was in Longton visiting and working for her aunt and uncle, Sam and Lois Wassom, who owned the restaurant there at that time.

Harley was enjoying his life a bachelor, riding the professional rodeo circuit as a bull rider and steer wrestler as well as farming in the Busby area with his dad, Ermine Gilbert.

Patty had served in the Navy and was a divorced mother of a young son, Jerry.  She was in Longton trying to decide where her life was headed.

They were married on Nov. 15, 1966, in Howard and they became a family.  They had two more children, Clint and Tammy. They lived in the Busby area for 23 years before moving to Fredonia in 1989.  They have eight grandchildren.
