Robert Eugene "Bob" Lassley, age 74, of Fredonia, Kansas, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home.  Robert was born on August 22, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of John N. and Nancy Effie (Owens) Lassley Sr.

Robert graduated from Piedmont High School in Piedmont, Kansas with the class of 1955.  He was a member of the track team and loved running the mile race.  After high school, Robert went to work for Cessna Aircraft.  Then he was hired on to KDOT and worked until he retired in 1993.  On May 17, 1975 in Severy, Kansas, he married Bertha May Poe.  They were married for 19 years until her death on April 11, 1995.

Robert was a past member of the Severy Baptist Church.  His favorite past time was fishing, walking around Fredonia, and visiting with people which he did on a daily basis.  He loved children, and all children loved him.  Robert was a friend to everyone he met and will be greatly missed by the community.

Robert is survived by his brothers, Dave Lassley and wife, Rose of North Carolina and  Stanley Lassley  of Arizona; his sister, Betty Barton and husband, Jim of Wichita, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bertha; six brothers, Claude, Wilbur, John, Bill, and Ed Lassley; and two sisters, Sybil Widler and Geneva Widler.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.  Burial will follow in Burns, Kansas.  The family has suggested memorials to the Fredonia Senior Center and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.

I will definitely miss Mr. Lassley! It was a pleasure to see him everyday during his walk and get to wave and holler hello to him. He was a very nice man!
