Gary Alan Mills, "The General", age 62, a resident of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 after a brave battle with cancer.  Gary was born on July 24, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas, the son of Calvin Leroy and Mary Lou (Perrigo) Mills.

Gary was a 1968 graduate of Moline High School where he then received a basketball scholarship to attend Independence Community College.  He served six years in the Army National Guard and united in marriage in 1971 to Margaret Murphy, having two children together.  He retired in 2011 from United Parcel Service (UPS) after 34 years of service where he made lifelong friendships and touched the hearts of so many people.

Gary is survived by and was a loving father to his two children: daughter, Sheila Mills of El Dorado, Kansas and son, Casey Mills of Grandview, Missouri; a devoted "Papa" to his grandson, Christopher of El Dorado, Kansas; his mother, Mary Lou Mills of Moline, Kansas; his brothers, Danny and Anita Mils of Towanda, Kansas and Mike Mills and Mary Mericle of Moline, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Wanda Mills of Moline, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Mills, and his brother, Tom Mills, both of Moline, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at the Moline Cemetery.  Family suggests contributions be made to the Cancer Center of Kansas-El Dorado and can be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E.
