Joseph Wilbert Morgan, son of Wm. H. and Mary Ann Morgan, was born in Labette county, Kansas, August 16, 1875, and passed away at Newton Memorial hospital, Winfield, Kansas, at 5:25 p.m., June 11, 1947, age 71 years, nine months and 25 days.

In 1880, he moved with his parents to near Fiat, Kansas, where he resided until 1895, when on October 23rd of that year he was united in marriage to Annie McConihey and they have made their home in and around Howard all of their married life.  To this union seven children were born.  One infant daughter having preceeded him in death, he leaves to mourn his going, besides the wife, six children, four daughters and two sons.  The daughters, Mrs. Mable B. Timmons of Coldwater, Kansas; Mrs. Gladys V. Denton of Howard; Mrs. Florence M. Andrews of Somona, California, and Mrs. Josephine M. Karbach of Arlington, Texas.  The sons, Wm. M., of Winfield, Kansas and Elias L. Morgan of Howard.  Two brothers survive, John T. and David B., both of Howard; one brother and one sister having preceeded him in death.  Also he leaves seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, several nieces and one nephew, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Morgan has been an active and successful farmer and citizen of Elk County and will be greatly missed by all who have known him and especially his many neighbors and friends of the Antioch community where has resided for a number of years.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Howard at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 15, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. F. Jenkins. The music was furnished by Mrs. Andrew Thompson, Mrs. H. C. Staley, W. G. Wright and Paul Moore, with Mrs. C. F. Jenkins accompanist.  The pall bearers were Harry Webster, Kenneth Alliston, Dennis Crisp, James Hawkins, Marion Stewart and Robert Dobson.  Burial was in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
