Twinkies hit eBay for $100 a box as supermarkets run out...

Twinkies are a hot commodity today as they're flying off supermarket shelves and onto eBay for unprecedented prices. The abrupt closing of Hostess caused Twinkies production to halt making the inventory in the stores today like gold for some quick thinkers, according to Hispanic Business.com on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012.

Many people are flocking to the Hostess rack at the stores to stockpile their personal supply of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and even Wonder Bread. Many budding entrepreneurs are cleaning off the shelves, with Twinkies the first to go, and they're putting the delectable confections on eBay today.

Westfield, Ma. Big Y on South Maple Street was depleted of Twinkies at about 9 a.m. this morning as there wasn't a box in sight. Hostess Cupcakes and Ding Dongs were still available, but just a few boxes of each remained on the shelves.

While the Twinkie craze is here today, it might not be for very long as some other big confectionary snack company is bound to buy up the popular brand. As far as a Hostess Twinkie, those are gone forever!

According to ABC News as of Friday boxes were selling for $60 on eBay, with prices going even higher as the weekend plays out. Boxes today on eBay are carrying a price tag of $100 dollars.

The final shipments of Twinkies went out on Friday and while the brand name of "Twinkies" will more than likely rise from the Hostess ashes, they won't be called Hostess Twinkies ever again. Maybe "Betty Crocker Twinkies," suggests "Fox and Friends Weekend" on Saturday, but that just doesn't sound the same!

     I was going to ask your opinion on why such a popular product is not going ahead with production. I can't believe it is because of sales.

     Cost of production, ingredients,.. ?

     Cost of labor, benefits,.....?

     Cost of meeting federal laws, restrictions,.... or some of all the above and more ?

    Is it perhaps because twinkies have been proven to last for decades and the feds don't want us to be able to stockpile food easily?

Mediation Between Hostess and Unions Fail

The Hostess company failed to reach agreement with its second-biggest union today. The company will continue with a hearing tomorrow at bankruptcy court.

The AP reported:

Hostess Brands Inc. lived to die another day.

The maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs said late Tuesday that it failed to reach an agreement with its second-biggest union. As a result, Hostess plans to continue with a hearing on Wednesday in which a bankruptcy court judge in White Plains, N.Y., will decide if the company can shutter its operations.

The renewed talks between Hostess and The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union came after the company declared last week that it would move to wind down its business and start selling off its assets in bankruptcy court. The company cited a crippling strike that was started on Nov. 9 by the union, which represents 30 percent of Hostess workers.

After making its case to liquidate on Monday, the bankruptcy court judge noted that the two sides hadn't yet tried resolving their differences through private mediation. The judge noted that 18,000 jobs were on the line and urged the company and union to try to resolve their differences. Both sides agreed to hold mediation proceedings on Tuesday.

In a statement late Tuesday, Hostess said it would not comment on the breakdown in talks other than to say that mediation "was unsuccessful." There was no immediate comment from the bakers union.

Yep, let's presume that the stockholders & bondholders have no right to determine who runs the company or who gets the spoils of a failure.  Nope, no hint of anti-capitalist, socialist wealth envy here.  WORKERS UNTIE!
