Dorothy Alene (Meisch) Disney, age 75, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012  at her son's home in Americus, Kansas.  She was born January 14, 1937 in Higgins, Texas to Paul Roger Meisch and Opal Neoma (Brown) Meisch.

When she was in 2nd grade, the family moved to a farm between Severy and Howard, Kansas, and when she was in the 8th grade, the family moved to Piedmont, Kansas.  She met her husband, Delbert Scott "Diz" Disney at a dance in Hamilton, Kansas, and they were married in 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Howard, Kansas.  They lived their married life in Emporia, Kansas where they raised five children. 

Dorothy was very active in her children's lives, serving on the PTA at Mary Herbert Elementary School and also as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and as a Girl Scout Leader, not only for her children but also for her grandchildren.  Girl Scouts was an important part of her life.  She was a lifetime member of both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts.

Besides raising five children, she also had many jobs through the years:  Nurse Aide, distributing the Topeka Daily Capital in Emporia, and Day Care.  After her husband's death in 1995, Dorothy moved back to Howard, Kansas to be closer to her brothers and sister.  She worked for many years at the Twilight Manor in Howard where she was a compassionate worker, caring for the laundry and other needs of the residents.  She also worked at her sister's cafe, Lila's Cafe in Piedmont, Kansas, on Saturdays.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Douglas Disney (Jena Johnson of Americus, Kansas, Neoma Disney Flanagan of Garner, North Carolina, Steven Disney (Mary Price) of Emporia, Kansas, Teresa Disney Holilman and Paul of Santa Clarita, California, and Diane Disney Brunk and Curtis of Madison, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Frank Meisch of Chanute, Kansas and Roland Meisch of Howard, Kansas; her sister, Lila Wunderlich of Piedmont, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert "Diz" Disney; her parents, Roger and Opal Meisch; her sister, Sally Barnaby; and two brothers, W.F. Meisch and Otto "Bud" Meisch.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 with Pastor Robin Haines officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Hand in Hand Hospice of Emporia, Kansas and Harry Hynes Hospice of Southeast Kansas, which were both instrumental in helping Dorothy through her final valiant battle with her cancer.
