Ambassador killed in Libya

This is the speech I would have liked to have heard from Presidential candidate Mitt Romney yesterday:

"My fellow Americans, today is the eleven year anniversary of the horrible mass murders of innocent men, women, and children in the United States by sick, twisted terrorists hiding behind the cloak of Islam. By a terrible stroke, today also marked vicious attacks on U.S. diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya. These attacks, by raging, cowardly mobs, were supposedly instigated by an amateur e-mail about the being whom Muslims consider sacred and a Holy prophet, Mohammed. This e-mail was made in the United States under the protection of our Constitution, which protects freedom or speech and expression. The mobs who attacked our missions objected to the e-mail cartoon or whatever it was. They have the complete right to object. But they do not have the right under any international law to attack our diplomatic stations for any reason at all.

"My opponent, Mr. Barack Obama, chose to meet this international outrage by apologizing to the mobs in the form of a letter from Mrs. Clinton's State Department condemning the making of the offending e-mail.

"Let me be clear about this: Mr. Obama is wrong. We have complete freedom of speech in this country. We do not apologize to mobs of thugs and bullies for our residents having free speech. When I take office, the era of apologizing to foreign thugs and bandits for the United States of America and our freedoms is over. We are not ashamed of being a free country. We are proud of it.

"We expect the governments of Egypt and Libya and all other nations to do their duty under law to protect our embassies. If they can't, we will take appropriate action. We are not going to be pushed around and we are not going to be bullied by gangsters and we are not going to apologize for the Constitution.

"There was a further default in Mr. Obama's leadership today. At a time when the whole world is desperately concerned about the certainty that Iran will soon have nuclear weapons and that same Iran has promised to use them to have a second Holocaust against the Jews and '...wipe Israel off the map...', the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, pleaded with Mr. Obama for a face to face meeting in New York when the President will be there for the opening of the UN General Assembly session. Mr. Obama brushed off Premier Netanyahu, head of government of one of our closest allies, saying his schedule did not permit such a meeting. It turned out that Mr. Obama did have time, however, on this trip to New York City to have a comedy interview with David Letterman.

"When reaction to this behavior turned negative, Mr. Obama hastily did an improvised phone call with Mr. Netanyahu and denied his own version of events released earlier.

"This is unacceptable, especially at a time of extremely high tensions in the Middle East. In the Romney-Ryan administration, peace and the maintenance of security for the U.S. and our allies will take precedence over talk shows and comedy and campaigning, no if's, ands, or buts. Our administration will take war and peace seriously. We realize this may seem uncool to some, but we really don't care. Peace is what we are about, and security. Not laughs."

Romney didn't make that speech but it's not too late.

Just sitting here reading the news.......now the embassies in Tunisia and other places are being attacked.  It's beginning to look like an all out attack on U.S. citizens and not because of some stupid video.  Kinda like it was pre-planned to coincide with  9/11.

Anyway, I was reading the comments to the news article and one was......

"Note to protesters:  Good news......you and your 72 virgins will soon be together.  The United States Marines are headed your way!"

Made me smile. :)

HELP!  I'm talking and I can't shut up!

I came...  I saw...  I had NO idea what was going on...

Larry,
You know how I feel about my beloved Corps but a "fast team " of 50 Marines vs 6.5 million people in Libya? At least send a battalion to give them a fighting chance.
I would first close every embassy in every one of those shit holes and bring our people home. Next I would close everyone of their embassies they have on our soil and send their diplomats packing. Immediately stop all foreign aid to them, which never should have happened to begin with. For every embassy, consulate or American owned KFC or Arby's they torch, I would drop napalm on one of their mosques. That's what I would do today but tomorrow I might wake up in a bad mood and Katy bar the door.

You're right.

Of course, the liberals will call you an isolationist.  Some might even say that you lack diversity.

jarhead

No Red, I'm not an isolationist. I think we should pull out of the shit holes, meaning Muslim countries. I'm not so naive to think we can all stay on US soil and isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. Maybe 200 years ago that wouldn't have been a bad idea but not in the times we are in today. Sorry if I didn't plug for Ron Paul for you  ;)

I see where the radical Islamist are attacking the German embassy in Sudan. Good. Maybe they will attack the French embassy too and leaders of those countries will show they have the gonads to do something about it---unlike the pussy we have for a leader. I'm sure our POTUS is as happy as a pig in a mud puddle over these embassy attacks. You see anything on the news about the dismal jobs reports or his complete failure on our economy , the last few days? Me neither.

Warph, I took economics classes from Ben Stein at Pepperdine and he is a knowledgeable economist and trade lawyer. What I am more interested in is, your opinion as a former analyst for the State Dept. and the Air Force. If it doesn't cut in to your golf game or the typing doesn't aggravate your shoulder too much; you could give a your professor's take on this situation.

I think I just found out why my country seems to be sliding down the tubes at a rapid pace. Wanting to read all I can about the mid east crises I go to MSNBC news for their take only to find that's not their top story---No, it's that some rag in France published topless pictures of Duchess Kate and now her and Willie are outraged. Let me give you some advice Duchess---
" Kate, you can't even go to the Royal crapper without the paparazzi snapping photos of you until you slam the door in their face. Why would you think you could sit on a balcony at some Rivera in France with your girls hanging out , and not think that someone would take a picture of them ? I'm not a smart man but in this age of everyone having camera phones, even I know that if I don't want pictures of Mr Wiggles and his two close neighbors pasted all over the web, keep him in the barn while in public "
Now back to Warph's second page news story.

I don't know the latest statistics, but the last thing I saw was that about 25% of our oil comes from the Middle East, with 15% of that coming from Saudi Arabia.  It occurs to me, IMHO, that the POTUS and Congress need to "man up" and tell those jokers that the billions we send them in foreign aid is going to stop unless the leaders of those countries crack down on their people and end all this violence.  So lets buy that other 10% from someone else.  Then all of a sudden, "hey, there's no money coming in foreign aid and they have quit buying our oil.......we're going to starve."  Many reports I have read state that despite the massive amounts of money that is going over there, those countries routinely vote against the U.S. in international affairs at the United Nations.  Kinda like biting the hand that feeds them, so to speak.  If these are "extremist groups" then the rest of the people should take them aside and slap them upside the head.

Jar, I am with you 100% with the exception of sending Marines or any other troops in.  It's a waste of time and American lives.  I am in agreement that we should just pull out and let them kill each other off.  If our presence, and those of other democratic countries, is gone, who are they going to protest against?  We would be better off just using those troops to guard against attacks in our own country.  As these people are foreigners, they are not protected by the Constitution...they have no Miranda rights......should be shot on sight.  And you are right about the isolationist thing.  That can't be done in these modern day and time, but we can sure as heck economically hurt them.

Again, IMHO, a stupid film about their almighty Muhammad is not the cause of all this, no matter what you hear.  It is only a small spark to ignite the greater fire, that being destruction of our way of life.  An excuse.

And, while I sometimes would like to "level the place and pave it," I would rather just leave them to their own hatred of others.  You know, just sit back and watch them dig themselves into the ground.  I am aware that there are a lot of good people, a majority, who detest all the violence, but until they take control, it's over.

BTW, Warph is still trying to clear the smoke and fire from his eyes and regain a somewhat level of normalcy before he can comment!
