Germany is the 'Most Popular Country in the World'

What a difference 68 years makes!  The most popular country in the world is Germany.  Japan is 4th.  The United States of America is #8, barely beating out China.  Details and  complete rankings after the jump.

From CNBC:
Europe's largest economy, Germany, which has been criticized for not doing enough to help struggling euro zone countries, has topped a poll as the world's most popular country.

The survey, carried out for the BBC, polled 26,000 people in 25 countries and asked them to rate 16 countries and the European Union as a whole on whether their influence on the world was mainly positive or negative.

Germany came out on top, with 59 percent of survey participants giving it a positive rating. The country moved up three percentage points from its 2012 position. It displaced Japan, which saw its positive rating fall from 58 percent last year to 51 percent, going from first to fourth place.

The most negatively perceived country was Iran, with only 15 percent of respondents giving it a positive rating. Pakistan and North Korea also received low ratings.

Congratulations to Canada for being #2.  How do you account for these rankings?  What do they tell us?

David Petraeus and Michael O'Hanlon: A new American renaissance – The Washington Post.

The U.S economy is still in the doldrums.  But former general and CIA director David Petraeus and Brookings scholar Michael O'Hanlon see the possibilities of a new economic boom on the horizon.  IF the government doesn't mess it up.

Here are the promising developments:

●An energy revolution. We are the world's largest producer of natural gas, with a 100-year supply, and we are on track to become among the largest producers of crude oil.

●A manufacturing revolution. We are rapidly developing robotics and 3-D printing, areas in which the United States is among the world's leaders.

●A revolution in life sciences.Genetics and stem-cell technology offer great potential in fields such as agriculture and pharmaceuticals and fundamentally new approaches in medicine.

●The IT revolution and the transition to cloud computing, in which we are also leading.

With all of these advantages, together with our North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, the energy-rich and economically dynamic Canada and Mexico, we could be on the threshold of the New North American Decades. The prospect is that North America — not China, Japan, Europe or India — will pull the world out of the global economic slowdown. But we will do so only if government gets the basics right.

But for these to come to fruition, Petraeus and O'Hanlon say, the government needs to cut the deficit and follow these policies:

●Regarding energy, agree on the Keystone XL pipeline while fostering partnerships between extraction companies and environmental groups; determine required regulatory rules; and grant a modest number of licenses to export natural gas.

●On infrastructure, drive the establishment of faster and cheaper Internet connections for most Americans to fully exploit the shift to cloud computing; and repair and rebuild roads, rail lines, ports, electricity grids and other assets that support our economic supply chains.

●On human capital, reform immigration policy; encourage science and technology study and research; and improve public schools while underwriting training in rigorous, relevant vocational skills.

●On finance, reform and simplify the tax code to stimulate savings; make health-care costs more visible; and help bring home the more than $2 trillion sitting offshore.

(Hmmmmm....I see here an interesting blend of proposals from the left [raise revenue; more money for schools] and the right [balance the budget; approve the Keystone pipeline]:

They suggest a partisan balance:  "We suggest that, for the good of the nation, each party agrees to achieve equal amounts of something neither wants to do:
*Republicans should produce, say, $500 billion in additional revenue over 10 years, and...
*Democrats should identify $500 billion worth of reforms to entitlement programs over the same period."

I wonder if the undoubtedly competent general may be positioning himself for higher office.... despite his resigning in disgrace over an adulterous affair... as a post-partisan harbinger of hope.

At any rate, the optimism is refreshing. .....Warph)

The MOST Important Video About Israel You'll Ever See!

"Can ancient prophecies about Israel be true? Is the Bible true or relevant today?
This video will put those questions to rest!!"

And let me add this:

TheLandofIsrael.com has done it again! In this new, entertaining approach to sticking up for the Jewish People, Ari & Jeremy put the blame where it belongs!:

UNESCO has accepted the Palestinian Authority (PA) as an official member. Pressure on Israel is mounting, fingers are pointing at the Jewish State, and the layers of the blame are those who should be our greatest allies. Wach this video to decide for yourself who's to blame in the Middle East conflict.

Israelis and the Palestinians have been embroiled in negotiations for years. Some of Israel's most hard line leaders have made unprecedented sacrifices for peace, while throughout the entire process, the Arab leadership in Gaza, Judea & Samaria (the West Bank) and Jerusalem have never compromised on any issue. With regards to israel, The differences between Hamas, Fatah (PLO), Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah have become nuanced at best. Can any rational person blame Israel for the lack of peace when their so called "partner" in negotiation has never made even one concession or compromise?

Brotherhood leader: Morsy will liberate Jerusalem ...
Via Egypt Independent:
http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/brotherhood-leader-morsy-will-liberate-jerusalem

During the rule of former President Gamal Abdel Nasser, a Jewish clairvoyant predicted that three men named Mohamad would rule Egypt and that the third would liberate Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, Muslim Brotherhood Mufti Abdel Rahman al-Barr said on Saturday.

At a conference entitled "We freed our soldiers and we will free our Aqsa," organized in Beni Suef by the Muslim Brotherhood, Barr explained the prophecy by saying that "the third Mohamed is President Mohamed Morsy. The first was Mohamed Anwar Sadat, and the second was Mohamed Hosni Mubarak."

"The road to Jerusalem must pass through Cairo and Damascus," Barr added. "Before Salahuddin went to Jerusalem, he freed Cairo as well as the Levant, and there is no way to liberate Jerusalem before Cairo and Damascus have first been liberated."

According to Barr, Hamas is part of the Muslim Brotherhood and it was able to force the Zionist entity out of Gaza.

"Israeli government officials used to set pre-conditions, the most important of which was recognition of the Israeli state, before agreeing to meet with the Hamas leadership, but they are now eager to convene without any – a change that can be attributed to the Arab Spring revolutions," he said.

"Israel will vanish; it is an artificial creation produced by a foreign body," Barr claimed.

He called on all Egyptians, regardless of their profession, to consider the liberation of Palestine as their top priority.

(Under POS Obama, the backlog has increased from 164,000 to 630,000.  This is unacceptable.  If we say, as the President said today that we should honor our servicemen, then honor them truly by giving them what they have truly earned.  Don't use them as a talking point, then fail them continuously behind the scenes)

Let's address hunger crisis
Posted: Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 3:01 AM

By Christina Weiss Lurie and Joan C. Hendricks

After years of being under the radar, America's hunger crisis is becoming a growing reality for many people.

One in six Americans goes to bed every night with empty stomachs. Poverty is forcing millions into "food insecurity" - the inability to know where your next meal is coming from. Families are buying cheaper, less nutritious food or cutting meals entirely.

The problem is not a lack of food; it's the inability to provide nutritious, safe, affordable food for everyone.

Approximately 13.5 million people live in areas where healthy food - fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, and eggs - is inaccessible. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that 82 percent of these "food deserts" are in the low-income areas of our biggest cities.

Residents in food deserts generally must opt for fast food or empty-calorie processed food from corner grocers. As a result, obesity has become inextricably connected to hunger. One in three children is obese in America and one in four is hungry. The irony is that these children appear over- nourished, but the opposite is true. They aren't receiving the proper nutrition.

Many of these children have trouble functioning in school. They can't concentrate, fall asleep, and are sick on a regular basis. With 17 million food-insecure children, the chronic health consequences are enormous. The cost of this threat to the U.S. economy in terms of health care is a staggering $167 billion a year.
