Sweden Demands Football Vikings Change Name

The nation of Sweden is demanding that the Obama administration act to deny copyright status to the Minnesota Vikings, claiming the name demeans its citizens and all other Scandinavians.

"We can no longer tolerate the use of this disgusting epithet by an American football team," said Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Milkquist in a letter to President Obama

"First of all, 'football' means 'soccer,' Milkquist wrote. "I realize that this is an unrelated matter, but it really pisses people off in Europe. You only use your foot occasionally in football, whereas in soccer the foot is the only thing you can use. Or at least the main thing.

"Secondly, the term 'Vikings' suggests a violent race intent on pillaging small villages and stealing their women," Milkquist continued. "In fact, the Vikings were a peace-loving people who spread goodwill throughout the world and grew strawberries in the summer."

Milkquist wrote that the "proper" term is "Norsemen," saying, "Please tell your patent office to rename the team the Minnesota Norsemen."

He noted that a group of Minnesota Vikings were at one time referred to as "The Purple People Eaters," adding, "See what I mean?"

Milkquist called the U.S. ambassador into his office Wednesday, handed him the letter, and smacked him in the face. He also suggested to the ambassador that the United States change the name of the Green Bay Packers as well. "It's nothing against Sweden, it's just bad name," he said. "You Americans have no taste."

The White House said it would immediately begin proceedings to change the Vikings' moniker.

"The president has ordered the U.S. patent office to revoke the Vikings' copyright and to arrest Fran Tarkenton and put him in jail," said White House press Secretary Jay Carney.

Tarkenton, who retired in 1978, will be housed at Gitmo.

"We have openings there," Carney said, "and it's the best place to extract information from him."

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians earlier this week successfully rebuffed an attempt by the Obama administration to change their name, with the team's attorney's arguing that the name in fact refers to people who live in Subcontinent and is in no way meant to offend Native Americans.

You Can Pee on Obama's Face at the
Faith and Freedom Conference
by Matt Wilstein | 1:35 pm, June 20th, 2014

The 2014 Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference is underway in Washington, D.C. and one of the fun features they have apparently included this year is the ability to pee directly on President Barack Obama's face. That's right, there are Obama urinal cakes in the men's room.

The Huffington Post's Igor Bobic shared the image you cannot un-see with the world on Twitter:

Attkisson: 9 Requests Lawmakers Should
Make About Lois Lerner's Missing Emails

Melissa Quinn  / @MelissaQuinn97 / June 16, 2014

As congressional investigators ponder how a computer crash caused two years of Lois Lerner's emails to disappear, investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson outlined several questions lawmakers should be asking the Internal Revenue Service.

During Lerner's tenure at the IRS, tea party groups applying for tax-exempt status routinely were subjected to additional scrutiny and delays in their applications. The IRS informed Congress last week that it had lost an unknown number of emails from Lerner.

>>> Paul Ryan Confronts IRS Commissioner: 'I Don't Believe You'

Now, as congressional Republicans call on the Department of Justice to open an investigation into the computer crash, Attkisson, a Daily Signal senior independent contributor, explained exactly what information investigators should seek regarding Lerner's missing emails:

1.Please provide a timeline of the crash and documentation covering when it was first discovered and by whom; when, how and by whom it was learned that materials were lost; the official documentation reporting the crash and federal data loss; documentation reflecting all attempts to recover the materials; and the remediation records documenting the fix. This material should include the names of all officials and technicians involved, as well as all internal communications about the matter.
2.Please provide all documents and emails that refer to the crash from the time that it happened through the IRS' disclosure to Congress Friday that it had occurred.
3.Please provide the documents that show the computer crash and lost data were appropriately reported to the required entities including any contractor servicing the IRS. If the incident was not reported, please explain why.
4.Please provide a list summarizing what other data was irretrievably lost in the computer crash. If the loss involved any personal data, was the loss disclosed to those impacted? If not, why?
5.Please provide documentation reflecting any security analyses done to assess the impact of the crash and lost materials. If such analyses were not performed, why not?
6.Please provide documentation showing the steps taken to recover the material, and the names of all technicians who attempted the recovery.
7.Please explain why redundancies required for federal systems were either not used or were not effective in restoring the lost materials, and provide documentation showing how this shortfall has been remediated.
8.Please provide any documents reflecting an investigation into how the crash resulted in the irretrievable loss of federal data and what factors were found to be responsible for the existence of this situation.
9.I would also ask for those who discovered and reported the crash to testify under oath, as well as any officials who reported the materials as having been irretrievably lost.

In testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in March, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told lawmakers agency emails "get taken off and stored in servers." Yet the IRS  said Lerner's correspondence, sent between January 2009 and April 2011, is irretrievable.

>>> Hollywood Plots 'More Believable' Than IRS, White House on Missing Emails

Congressional investigators are working to determine whether Lerner acted alone or on orders handed down by the White House. House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., said in a statement Friday the IRS' loss of documents makes it more difficult for investigators to determine who, besides Lerner, was involved in the scandal.

Lerner testified twice on Capitol Hill about the targeting, but invoked the Fifth Amendment both times. In May, the House voted to hold her in contempt for refusing to cooperate with investigations.

How did we survive?

I am one of the baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964. I sometimes wonder how we survived. Consider:

Our mothers smoked and/or drank while pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with brightly colored, lead-based paints.

There were no childproof lids on medicine or special locks on cabinet doors.

We we rode bikes, we wore baseball caps, not specially engineered helmets.

As infants, we rode in cars without car seats or booster seats, no seat belts and no air bags. Sometimes, as tots, we rode in small moving boxes packed with blankets and toys.

We rode in the back of pickup trucks and no one was arrested or cited.

We drank water from garden hoses, not from plastic bottles.

We shared a single bottle of Coca-Cola with three friends -- and no one died.

We ate cupcakes with food coloring, white bread, real butter and bacon. In fact, we drank Kool-Aid mixed with tablespoons of real sugar.

Yet we weren't overweight, because we were always outside playing.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when dusk fell. And no one was able to reach us all day. And: we were okay.

We'd spend hours in the forest with Daisy rifles, or building go-carts without brakes, or sledding with wooden and steel monstrosities that could sever a limb.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-Boxes. There were no video games, no cable television, no DVD players. There were no computers, no web, no Facebook, no Twitter.

We had friends and we went outside and found them... without cell phones or text messages.

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits resulting from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns and knives for our birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls, played lawn darts and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

The boomers have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, inventors and entrepreneurs ever.

The last 50 years have seen an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

We had the good fortune to grow up as kids in America, before the government regulated so much of our lives "for our own good".

Give thanks, for such an age will never occur again.
