Patricia Jeanne "Patty" Nelson, age 57, a resident of Howard, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born on July 25, 1954 in Osage City, Kansas, the daughter of Cleo and Barbara (Hudson) Grimmett.

Patty was a graduate of Americus High School in Americus, Kansas and worked as an LPN at Emporia Rehab and later at Howard Twilight Manor.  On June 27, 1994, she married Vincent Nelson in Emporia, Kansas.  She was an avid football fan and was known as a "Mat Mom" while her sons wrestled in high school.  She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghan blankets and throws for her family and friends.

Patty  is survived by her husband, Vincent, of the home; her father and stepmother, Cleo and Anna Grimmett of Emporia, Kansas; two sons, Bassem Salaymeh of Katy, Texas and Tim Salaymeh of Howard, Kansas; one step-daughter, Tushaun Portenier of Washington, Kansas; three step-sons, Jeremy Nelson of San Francisco, California, Richard Nelson of Riverside, California, and Michael Nelson of San Diego, California; one sister, Shirley Williams of Salina, Kansas; and four grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Cresco Cemetery near Howard, Kansas.  Family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital and may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are entrusted to Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E.
